Serving Seniors in 15 counties in Western North Carolina and the Qualla Boundary

The State of Franklin Health Council, Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving seniors in 15 counties in western North Carolina and the Qualla Boundary.

State of Franklin, as it is commonly referred to, is headquartered in Bryson City located in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina.

The State of Franklin operates the Swain County Senior Community Center, the Swain County Transit system, and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) from its headquarters in Bryson City.

The Swain County Senior Community Center offers nutrition, socialization, spiritual activity, health checks, workshops, exercise, and other benefits to seniors in Swain County.

The Swain County Transit system operated by the State of Franklin has as its mission: To encourage and promote the development of a safe, efficient, and affordable transportation system that meets the mobility needs of all Swain County residents.

SCSEP is a combination subsidized employment program for qualified seniors to earn income, while at the same time participants in this program are learning new employment skills and searching for unsubsidized employment for themselves in their community.
